Carol Jean Henstorf (CJ), 53, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday May 8, 2006 in her home.
She was born on December 19, 1952, in Perham, MN, the daughter of Rudolph Boots, and Frances (Quittschreiber) Henstorf. She attended grade school and high school in Perham and moved to Fergus Falls when she was a young adult. She worked at Wild Rice Childrens home for several years, and then began her career at the Fergus Falls State Hospital, where she worked for many years. She suffered a disabling injury at work, and was unable to work for the last several years. Carol volunteered at the Humane Society and for the Salvation Army when she was able to do so.
Carol is best known for her love of animals. She began bringing home stray animals when she was a child, and continued to rescue and care for various animals throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed ringing bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas time with her St. Bernard, Bubba, at her side. She maintained her positive attitude through years of medical problems, and severe, chronic pain. She faced her deteriorating ability to get around and do the things that were important to her with bravery and she was stubbornly independent until the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and aunts and uncles.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in law, Gary and Sheila, and their children Jennifer and Joshua; sister, Cheryl (Ray) Ackerman, and sister, Paula. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, and a cat, as well as other animals she loved and cared for. She will be remembered and missed by those who knew and loved her.
