BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A Cass Lake man who shot a White Earth man in the leg in September was sentenced this week in Beltrami County District Court for felony assault and possession of an assault weapon.
Dwight Thomas Jones, 38, was sentenced to 60 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for the felony possession of a pistol or assault weapon charge. He was sentenced concurrently to 57 months in prison for the second-degree assault charge.
Jones was arrested after he and Cory J. Walter Jones, 26, of Cass Lake were identified as the men who shot and assaulted two White Earth men on Sept. 26 at a residence in Ten Lakes Township, according to court documents. Dwight Jones was accused of shooting a man in the leg with a rifle and Cory Jones is accused of assaulting a man with a gun.
Dwight Jones entered guilty pleas to both charges Dec. 8.
Cory Jones pleaded not guilty in Nov. 10 to ineligible person in possession of a firearm. He is scheduled to appear Feb. 2 in Beltrami County District Court.
