The hot play of Taylor Cavanagh and the consistent play of Will Ryan has helped Perham stay in the hunt in the Heart O Lakes. Cavanagh shot a 38 and Ryan a 39 as the Jackets finished third at the HOL at Forrest Hills last week.

Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal won the meet with a 155. Agassiz Valley was second with a 160, followed by Perham with a 165.

Cavanagh really began to flex his muscles over the weekend as he earned medalist honors at the Pelican Rapids Invite on Friday and at the Staples-Motley Invite on Saturday.

His round of 77 helped Perham to a team score of 338 at Pelican Rapids, good for second place.

Park Christian beat Perham on a scorecard playoff to take first place. The top-four golfers on both teams scored 338.

Ryan shot an 85 and Josh Fleck fired an 87 to help the Jackets.

On Saturday, Cavanagh led the pack with a 77 as Perham finished seventh at Craguns G.C. near Brainerd.

Princeton won the 14-team invite with a 329.

The Jackets finished with a 355. Cavanagh, now ranked No. 4 in Class A, was the only Perham golfer to shoot below 90.

Were still struggling to put it all together, head coach Jeff Tweeton said. I think their physical skills are all there, but they still havent gotten a handle on the mental part of the game.

Mondays HOL meet at Balmoral was postponed due to lightning. A make-up date was still being worked out.

The boys will close out their regular season this week with a busy schedule. Perham will host the HOL at PLGC today (May 11) starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Jackets will then head to Fargo for a 36-hole, two-day tournament on May 12-13.

The final regular season conference meet will take place in Frazee on May 15, then the HOL Championships will take place at Wildflower G.C. on Pelican Lake on May 18.
