Loose change really does add up, and for New York Mills Elementary School students digging out change from under the sofa cushions will help pay for a new playground. "Change for a Change", a fundraiser for students in grades K-6, collected $2,754 in just over a month. The money is added to the growing amount in the Play Matters fund, which will be used to purchase new playground equipment for the elementary school. The "Change for a Change" money does not include business or individual donations over $50 from parents of students at the school. These larger donations are considered separate gifts and were not figured in with the kids' change collected.
To date over $90,000 has been pledged for the project. Total cost is estimated at about $110,000.
Each elementary student will be awarded a healthy snack for all their hard work in collection change.
