Even more Christmas cheer than normal will be available at this year's Community Christmas Party in December.

The City Council decided Tuesday to grant the New York Mills Lions a one-day liquor license for the party, scheduled for Dec. 2 at the City Hall Ballroom.

The Lions already hold a license to sell beer and this will be the first year liquor will be sold at the party.

Centennial Lake

This unofficially named lake in New York Mills may not be around much longer. The area of standing water on Centennial Drive just east of the old Mid-State building will likely disappear before winter.

Tuesday the City Council gave engineer Jon Pratt the go ahead to find a solution for the problem. Pratt told the council he will look at the situation further and thinks the best solution would be to drain the water into the new storm sewer system recently installed at Centennial and Broadway.

The water began to accumulate this summer after the street project in that area was completed and the adjacent parking lot was filled with dirt, which created the drainage problem.

Pratt's initial estimate to fix the problem is around $2,500.
