Contemporary Christian music, featuring a Perham singer-songwriter, will be presented in an outdoor concert June 2.

As part of the Calvary POPS Concert Series "Music to Move your Soul," the Christian band, "Eyewitness," will perform at 7 p.m. June 2, on the Calvary Lutheran Church grounds.

Eyewitness' music is a blend of original and popular praise and worship music with an acoustic rock/folk sound.

Erin Anderson, Calvary youth director and band member, said the band has an "acoustic/rock" feel with a 'campy energy.'"

Along with Anderson who performs lead vocals and guitar, other band members include: Dave Adams, Grand Forks, ND, keyboards and vocals; Christy Freeman, Sartell, Minn., vocals and violin; Chris Grismer, Perham, drums; Jim Rolf, Omaha, Neb., bass guitar and vocals; and Josh Swanson, Moorhead, lead guitar, mandolin and vocals.

Anderson, Swanson and Rolf are all youth directors in ELCA congregations.

The band has three albums and the most recent "Cross-Eyed" mixes original music with praise and worship songs.

Anderson and Rolf formed the band in Bellevue, Neb., in 1995. They have played at youth gatherings in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Colorado. In 2002, they performed at the ELCA National Youth Workers Convention in Atlanta.

They also played the Acoustic Stage at Spirit Fest Midwest and opened for Randy Stonehill, a pioneer in contemporary Christian music. The band finished second in the Christian Artists Talent Search competition in Nashville, Tenn.

Later this year, the band will play for Music on the Blacktop at Trinity Lutheran, Moorhead, the synod Junior High Youth Gathering, Bemidji, and the Rocky Mountain Synod Middle School Gathering, Colorado Springs, Co.

"Our witness through music relates well with people of all ages and encourages them to center everything on Jesus," Anderson said. "We convey a message filled with honesty, hope and the faith that we are never alone in this life when we walk with Christ."

Anderson himself released a CD late last year, featuring an "unplugged" selection of music--much of it original.

In case of rain, the concert will be held in Calvary's Fellowship Hall. Bring lawn chairs or blankets or use the provided seating. There will be a freewill offering for the band's expenses.
