County launches medication disposal program

Otter Tail County residents now have a free, anonymous avenue for disposal of unwanted prescription medication, over-the-counter medications used for human or agricultural use, or narcotic drugs in a way that minimizes risks to health and safety.

Otter Tail County residents now have a free, anonymous avenue for disposal of unwanted prescription medication, over-the-counter medications used for human or agricultural use, or narcotic drugs in a way that minimizes risks to health and safety.

Six secure medication disposal boxes will be posted at various law enforcement centers throughout the county.

Follow these instructions:

-Leave medication in the original container

-Remove your name or other personal information from the label

-Leave the name of the medication on the container

-Drop the medication into the disposal box opening

-No syringes, needles or sharps accepted

-No mercury devices, household chemicals, biohazardous waste or chemotherapy radioactive medications accepted

Local drop-box locations are accessible during regular business hours at:

1. Government Services Center - 118 N. Main Street, New York Mills

2. Perham Police Department - 525 W. Main Street, Perham
