Derek John Sweere, 40, of Perham, is accused of stabbing his roommate in both eyes, killing him, and then shooting him multiple times, according to the complaint filed in Otter Tail District Court. The incident occurred March 30 at the home the men shared at 640 First Ave. S.

Brandon Snyder, 34, was pronounced dead on the scene by EMT personnel, according to the complaint.

Sweere is charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm in Snyder's death, according to the complaint. Sweere faces up to 40 years in prison for the second-degree murder charge and up to 15 years or a fine of up to $30,000, or both, for the possession of a firearms charge, according to the complaint. He is being represented by attorney Robert Hoy, according to Otter Tail County Court Administration.

Snyder, 34, moved to Perham from Verndale and worked at Shearer’s Snacks for the past two years, according to a GoFundMe page started April 4 by his aunt, Becky Lustila of Perham. The $3,500 goal is to pay for Snyder’s funeral expenses, according to information on the page.
