Crash kills one teen, injures four others

A 15-year-old from Erhard was killed, and four others injured, in a one-vehicle rollover on Vergas Trails Road south of Detroit Lakes last Wednesday.

Four of the five individuals in the vehicle were minors, according to a press release from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

The 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital and later released, while the other two were brought to the hospital by private vehicle and treated for minor scrapes and bruises.

The crash occurred at about 2:44 a.m. on July 31, according to the sheriff’s report. The driver has been identified as 18-year-old Austen Kurt Lynnes of Pelican Rapids.

The sheriff’s office does not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The incident is still under investigation.
