What's a good way to get a few items knocked off the "Honey-do" list? One effective method and good incentive is to open your doors to a Tour of Homes. Then many of those little home improvement and decorating projects must get done.
Five New York Mills area homes will be featured this Saturday in the 2006 Fall Tour of Homes, sponsored by the GFWC New Horizons Club. Tickets are still on sale for this fundraiser and can still be purchased at Seip Drug and the NY Mills Regional Cultural Center or from any New Horizons member. Tickets are priced at $10 and the tour runs 1-4:30 p.m.
The Tour of Homes is traditionally held every other year around Christmas time and this year the event was moved to the fall. The five hosts will open their homes Saturday as curious men and women walk from room to room to check out design and decorating ideas. Each home is different, with its own style and unique features, from a full-length cedar porch at the DuWayne and Mary Roberts home to a massive floor to ceiling cultured stone fireplace at Bret and Jennifer Campana's home.
Money raised at the Tour of Homes goes toward New Horizons-funded projects and donations in the community.
DuWayne and Mary Roberts

This 2-story home was built in 1999 by the couple and is located six miles north of Mills just off County Highway 67. Turn east on 440th Street until 553rd Avenue. Turn left (heading north) on 553rd Avenue and the Roberts' home is the first house on the right-hand side.
The Roberts' kitchen has beautiful custom built oak cabinets by Chris Roberts and a full length cedar front porch. DuWayne and Mary have several antiques from both sides of the family that furnish their home. They have done much of the interior work themselves, including a handmade railing.
Tim and Kristin Johnson
This split level home was built in 2000 and is located at 118 Wendy Woods Lane on the south side of town.
Since the home was built the Johnsons have added a very nice large 4-four season room and remodeled the lower level, which features a cozy and comfortable family room. A gas fire place was installed by Lakes Hearth & Home Center and ceramic tile installed by Campana Tile & Stone.
Bonnie Nelson
Bonnie's home is located at 407 Meadowlark Lane on the north side of NY Mills in the North Fork addition. This beautiful 2-story home is decorated throughout with a "Coca-Cola" inspired basement. Bonnie also has a large collection of Boyd's Bears and a number of Terry Redlin prints, as some nice-looking landscape around the exterior.
Mike and Phyllis Conlon

The Conlon's, owners of Hilltop Homes, live in this impressive modular home located at 407 Hummingbird Lane in North Fork. The home features vaulted ceilings and a panoramic window in the living room, as well as a see-through fireplace looking into the dining room. Much of the Conlon's exterior additions have included a covered porch on the front of the home and a 4-season room built by Lausten Construction at the rear of the house. Inside, the home features a number of collections, including snowmen, duck and moose.
Bret and Jennifer Campana
This home has several unique characteristics that many will enjoy on this year's tour. The entire home has travatine, slate, hardwood and/or porcelain tile surfaces. The Campanas have together installed all of the flooring and custom-built several pieces of furniture, including a custom island with granite and concrete top.
The focal point of the living room is a massive floor to ceiling cultured stone fireplace, with a 20-foot hearth. The large kitchen was recently remodeled and features custom-built cabinets by Chris Roberts.
