Man sentenced for grabbing, trying to bite people

Cristian Alex Cahlin, 22, of Wadena has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fourth-degree assault and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

According to court records, on the evening of Dec. 13, during a sporting event, police were called to Audubon Elementary School, where they found Cahlin on the floor, kicking his legs, yelling incoherently and held down by multiple people.

He had grabbed at least three people and had tried to bite one of them.

He was arrested and taken to the Becker County Jail, where he was placed in a restraint chair, from whence he spit on three jailers before a "spit hood" could be placed over his head.

Cahlin appeared in court May 19 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who sentenced him to a year and a day in prison at St. Cloud, stayed four years.

He was ordered to serve 45 days in jail, with credit for eight days served. Work release privileges were granted. He must pay a $1,000 fine, and $1,160 in court fees, and get a chemical use assessment and follow the recommendations.

He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
