Semi/tanker driver injured near Rush Lake

A semi/tanker driver from Herman, Minnesota was injured Feb. 23 near Rush Lake, south of Perham, when he lost control and entered the ditch near Highway 78. Taken to the Perham hospital with minor injuries was David Sibley, 57. He was driving the unit for Bongards, which is a cheese manufacturer in Perham.

According to county sheriff deputies, the driver fell asleep when driving at 1:31 a.m. The semi tanker sustained a broken axle after hitting the ditch.

Fugitive arrested at East Battle Lake

Sheriff deputies, on Feb. 22, arrested a fugitive from justice at East Battle Lake.

The fugitive, from Apple Valley just south of the Twin Cities, was hiding from law enforcement after being charged Feb. 8 for stalking. He also was suspected of stealing and manipulating victims' information and accounts.

Arrested at a fish house and taken into custody without incident was Christopher Endicott, 50, of Apple Valley.

"Our office had been contacted by Apple Valley police requesting assistance," said Otter Tail County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke during a news media briefing on Friday, Feb. 23.

"The individual was believed to be armed with a scoped rifle and possibly had intent to harm himself," said Van Dyke.

The County Sheriff SWAT team responded to East Battle Lake at 7:42 p.m. on Feb. 22.

Cabin fire averted at Pelican Lake

A full fire and extensive damage to a cabin at Pelican Lake, north of Pelican Rapids, was averted at 1:48 a.m. on Feb. 23. Smoldering took place at floor joists where heat lamps were used to keep pipes from freezing.

Firefighters were on the scene but only some water damage at the cabin took place.

"With smoldering, there are no flames and suppressed combustion," said Otter Tail County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.

The incident took place on the north side of Pelican Lake.
