A resident who lives on the south side of Otter Tail Lake, and north of Blanche Lake, reported to sheriff deputies the theft of a Remington .22 LR (long range) rifle and other items on Sept. 13.
Later, during a routine traffic stop in New York Mills, the rifle and other stolen items were found in a vehicle. An adult male from Richville and a juvenile male were arrested.
Otter Tail County sheriff deputies said the other stolen items from the residence at Otter Tail Lake included three boxes of .22LR ammunition, a case of Budweiser and box of wine.
The investigation was ongoing as of Monday, Sept. 16.
Other possible thefts reported
Sheriff deputies investigated possible thefts after a break-in at a detached garage in Battle Lake on Sept. 13 and a break-in on the northwest side of Otter Tail Lake, also on Sept. 13.
In both cases, owners were trying to take inventory of items. These investigations also were ongoing as of Sept. 16.
ATV stolen near Dent
A person who resides north of Dent, near Highway 35, reported the theft of a blue Polaris Sportsman 500 ATV.
Sheriff deputies were informed about the theft on Sept. 15. The incident likely took place on Sept. 14 or Sept. 15.
Field damaged by drunken driver
A drunken driver caused extensive damage in a soybean field near the town of Maine, north of Phelps Mill.
The incident was called into the sheriff office on Sept. 15.
Sheriff deputies said the suspect was later apprehended and agreed to pay the landowner for damages. The property owner declined to press charges.
