The start of summer in lakes country also includes the onset of calls coming into the sheriff’s office about jet ski complaints.
Calls came just before 10 p.m. May 31 from different locations. Callers complained of jet ski users, many of them juveniles, being out too late at night.
Late evening patrols by sheriff lake patrol units, especially on weekends, will likely take place.
Car parts reported stolen
Sheriff deputies reported the theft of various car parts on May 31 from a storage shed on 160th Street in south-central Otter Tail County.
Entry was gained through a rear window, according to deputies. The investigation was continuing as of June 1.
Man charged after shooting at chipmunks
Sheriff deputies on May 26 charged a resident of south-central Otter Tail County with reckless discharge of a firearm.
A man was shooting at chipmunks in his backyard just before 6 p.m., according to deputies. Some of the rounds of ammunition skipped off the ground and into a nearby lake, coming within 10 feet of a boat.
Minor traffic injury reported
A driver received minor injuries in a traffic accident at 3:15 p.m. May 26 north of Perham, at the intersection of Highway 60 and 435th Avenue.
Sheriff deputies said the driver lost control of his vehicle, entered the east ditch, crossed over the road and came to rest against an irrigation pivot.
Suspect charged in fake $100 bill investigation
Sheriff deputies, on May 23, were conducting a counterfeit $100 bill investigation following a complaint at Fort Thunder Road southwest of Perham.
A suspect was later apprehended by deputies and charged with driving after revocation of a license.
One injured in Bluffton area crash
One person was injured at 9:44 p.m. on May 24 in a one-vehicle traffic accident southeast of Bluffton.
The mishap took place at the intersection of Highways 10 and 75 near the Otter Tail-Wadena county line. A drone was used during the aftermath of the accident.
“The vehicle swerved and went off the road into the south ditch and rolled,” said a spokesperson for the Minnesota State Patrol which assisted sheriff deputies. “The driver was ejected from the vehicle.”
Authorities identified the victim as Janelle Marie Landecker, 43, of Brainerd. She was taken to a hospital in Fargo with life-threatening injuries.
Driver injured near Carlisle
Sheriff deputies reported on May 22 that a person received minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident north of Carlisle and southwest of Elizabeth. The accident took place at 6:34 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 21 and 300th Street.
The driver, Madeline Sytsma, swerved to avoid hitting a turkey on the roadway, caught gravel on the side of the highway and entered the southbound ditch where she suffered injuries.
Theft reported at Henning cabin
Numerous items were taken from a seasonal cabin at Leaf Lakes north of Henning.
The call came into the sheriff’s office on May 22. The owner later compiled a list of missing items. There were no immediate suspects.
