Date set for NY Mills school open house

The fall open house for New York Mills Elementary and 7th grade orientation has been set for Aug. 29, 4-7 p.m. Once again IMPACT will serve a meal for students and families. Greg Esala, Elementary School Principal, announced the date and times at Monday's School Board meeting.

In discussing other elementary school business, Esala informed the board there is an opening for a 3rd grade section and the school received 75 applications for the position.

In high school news, Principal Matt Aker shared some good academic news with the board. Four out of four Mills students who took the Advanced Placement Calculus test passed. Based on a score of 1 to 5, with 3 passing, two students scored the highest possible with 5 and two scored 3.

In other board business:

- The school received a $10,000 grant for IMPACT from West Central Initiative. The money is used for things like pool passes, 4-H, and Early Childhood activities.

- awarded milk contract to Kemps

- authorized the sale of $1,005,000 general obligation aid anticipation certificates

- approved student teaching agreements with University of Minnesota and University of North Dakota

- Truth in Taxation Hearing set for Dec. 3, 6 p.m.

- Next board meeting set for Aug. 27, 6 p.m.
