Funeral services were held for Dennis Tolkinen of New York Mills, Minnesota on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota with Pastor Don Salo officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janet Tumberg. The pallbearers were Chris Cotton, Terry Wagman, Rick Wagman, Ron Renneberg, Bob Christianson and Everet Wegsheid. Dennis was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, Minnesota.

Dennis Charles Tolkinen was born on March 18, 1950 in Wadena, Minnesota. His father is Charles Tolkkinen and his mother the late Mabel (Niskala) Tolkkinen. Dennis grew up on the family farm in rural New York Mills. He graduated from New York Mills High School with the Class of 1968. Dennis attended Wadena Technical College and became an electronic Technician. He was employed with Bob Thompson Motors in New York Mills, then Homecrest, Gambles Hardware and Markus Communications all in Wadena, Minnesota. Since 1999, Dennis has been employed with RD Offut. Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and selling produce. On March 30, 2007 Dennis passed away at his home at 57 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Dennis in death were his mother, Mabel; and past girlfriend, Diane Birchem.

Dennis is survived by a daughter, Missy (Chris) Cotton of Wadena; 2 sons: Matt (Stacaia) Tolkinen of Staples; Andrew Jessen of Wadena; his father, Charles Tolkkinen of New York Mills; 4 grandchildren: Talia Cotton, Arriana Cotton, Chiane Kowalski and Tyler Dunn; sisters, Darlene (Ronald) Renneberg of Minneapolis; a brother, Ronald (Marlene) Tolkinen of Marshfield, Wisconsin; Missy and Matt's mother, Diane Tolkinen of Pokipsey, New York; many other relatives and a host of friends.
