Timothy Neitzke, O.D. from the Perham Eye Clinic will be at the Perham Area Community Center (PACC) on October 11 to talk about diabetic Retinopathy. The presentation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is free of charge.
Diabetes Mellitus is becoming a near epidemic health care problem in the U.S. A small blood vessel disease, diabetes has a particular effect on the retina of the human eye. As a leading cause of blindness in the U.S., diabetic retinopathy is very treatable if detected early.
If you are a type I or type II, insulin or non-insulin diabetic, annual dilated retinal exams are paramount to the future of your sight. The early stages of diabetic retinopathy cannot be seen or felt. Early treatment is painless and will preserve vision.
Other upcoming events at the PACC include a Happy Holidays with Healthy Eating Workshop to be held at 10:00 a.m. on November 10. Dietician Monica Foster will discuss strategies for holiday eating, eating out and sticking to a healthy diet when the holiday season approaches.
December 6, Pharmacist Scott Miller, RPH from Pamida Pharmacy will be speaking at 10:00 a.m. He will discuss proper storage of medicine, when to throw out medicine, generic vs. name brand, plus much more. Scott will also give an update on the changes of Medicare-D. This presentation and the Healthy Eating Workshop are free of charge.
