Eagle tennis team drops pair of close matches

The Eagle tennis team hoped to get a look at a pair of Section 8A?rivals at the Roseau Triangular on Thursday. Because of rain, they only got to see one of those teams, and they didn't even play in Roseau.

After making the trip north, the New York Mills girls had their opening match of the triangular against the host Rams postponed due to rain. When the rain didn't let up, the Lady Eagles began their journey home, with a stop at some dry courts in Thief River Falls, where they took on the Prowlers.

TRF, one of the top teams in the 8A?North Sub-Section, won a close and exciting match against New York Mills, 4-3.

"Our players really competed well and gave their best effort," Eagle head coach Gary Bach said.

Savannah Thompson and Missy Hendrickx won in straight sets in their singles matches. In doubles, the No. 2 team of Trisha Loerzel and Chelsey Hendrickx earned a hard-fought three-set match, taking the third set tiebreaker, 7-5.

The match hinged on the No. 3 doubles match, featuring the New York Mills team of Lauren Bach and Kinsey Perala. After losing their first set, the Mills duo won the second set, 7-6 (7-2). The TRF team was able to pull out a 7-5 win in the third set tiebreak, to help the Prowlers win the match.

Tuesday at C-I

The Eagles had a couple of close matches go the other way Tuesday at Crosby-Ironton in a 5-2 loss to the Rangers. Stephanie and Missy Hendrickx each won their singles matches.

Back at home

The Lady Eagles will be at home for their next two matches. Mills will host Osakis today (Sept. 4)?at 4:30 p.m. The Silverstreaks won the earlier match this season, 6-1.

On Sept. 9, Parkers Prairie will be in New York Mills for a 4:30 p.m. match.
