The Eagle baseball team put together some timely hitting to punish Otter Tail Central for their mistakes in a 6-1 win April 26 at Russ Jacobson Field.

A walk to Jeremy Hagen in the second inning started the Eagles' first rally. Drew Schultz followed with a bloop single. Both scored as an OTC error and hit batter kept the inning alive.

Schultz began the fourth inning rally by getting hit by a pitch. Mike Baune doubled and Cavin Berube loaded the bases with a walk. Tyler Wegscheid drove in Schultz and Baune with a single and Berube scored when the catcher missed home plate on a force play after a ground ball to third off the bat of Jordan Vaughan. A RBI single by Alex Helmeke gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Baune was cruising on the mound. He allowed one run in the fifth with two walks and a hit batter. He scattered five hits through seven innings and struck out nine to pick up his second win of the season.

Good test

Mills put up a good fight in a close 9-6 loss at No. 6-A Bertha-Hewitt on April 24. The Eagles fell behind 5-2 before scoring two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.

Jason Burg was 3-for-4 with two RBI in the loss. Vaughan was 2-for-4. Brendan Frost took the loss, allowing five runs in 2 1/3 innings.

Big week

NY Mills has a very big week ahead of them. They make-up two games from earlier this season as doubleheaders and mix in a top-10 team on the road. They start today (May 3) with a doubleheader at Jacobson Field at 4:30 p.m. against Parkers Prairie. The second game with the Panthers (2-2, 2-2 Park Region) is a make-up from April 10.

The Eagles will hit the road on May 4 to take on No. 8-A Wheaton/Herman-Norcross. The Warriors (8-1) had won five-straight heading into Tuesday's game at Chokio-Alberta. W/H-N elimnated Mills 14-9 in the 6A semifinals last season.

Mills follows that up with another Park Region doubleheader at Jacobson Field on May 8, this time against Verndale (1-6, 1-4 Park Region). The Eagles won both meetings last season with the Pirates.
