Eagles softball team beats Pillager for first win of season

The Eagles varsity softball team scored seven runs in the first inning against Pillager and earned its first win of the season Tuesday.

Emily Salo and Tessa Wegscheid started the game with singles and the first eight Eagles hitters reached base. The Eagles batted around and Wegscheid doubled in to score two for her second hit of the inning.

New York Mills continued to pummel Pillager pitching and scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead, but the Huskies came back with one run in the fifth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh. The Eagles held on to win 9-7.

Eagles starting pitcher Steph Cichy gave up seven runs in seven innings, gave up 12 hits and walked two.

NY Mills scored nine runs on eight hits. Salo and Wegscheid had two hits each, and Kristi Boe, Brea Welter, Macailia Warner and Steph Cichy each had one hit. Wegscheid had three RBI, while Rebecca Ellingworth and Cichy had two RBI.

The Eagles (1-3) play at Sebeka this Thursday, 4:30 p.m.

On April 13 against Verndale the Eagles scored one run in the first inning and were held scoreless the rest of the game in the 8-1 loss. Mills managed five hits in the game, led by Tessa Wegscheid and Kristi Boe with two hits each.

The Eagles lost to Parkers Prairie on April 11. With only five hits in the game Mills scored just one run. Tessa Wegscheid was 2-4, Emily Salo was 1-4 and Kristi Boe was 1-3 with one RBI, and Rebecca Ellingworth was 1-3 with a double.
