Eagles volleyball team thrashes Staples-Motley

The Eagles volleyball team took an aggressive offense into Staples on Tuesday and thrashed the Cardinals, 3-0, before the home team knew what hit them. New York Mills dominated the first game by scoring 14 straight points to take a 19-5 lead and win 25-7. Game two was much closer but the Eagles, after taking a 19-18 lead, held on to win 25-22. NY Mills continued its strong play and made quick work of the Cardinals in game three, winning 25-12, and the match 3-0 for the Eagles' first win of the season.

Bobbi Smith put together a solid performance for the Eagles with 6 kills, 7 solo blocks and 7 assisted blocks on the night. Hannah Rutten had 5 service aces, 3 kills, 2 solo blocks and 8 assisted blocks for Mills.

The Eagles (1-1) will hit the road tonight (Sept. 7) to face Bertha-Hewitt at 7 p.m.

This weekend, NY Mills will host their Annual Fall Tournament. Teams will include: NY Mills Swanville, Nevis and Menahga in Pool A; and Isle, NCE, Upsala and Verndale in Pool B. Action begins ta 9 a.m. when the Eagles take on Swanville. The third place game will be at 3 p.m. in the high school gym while the championship is played at the Sports Center gym

Verndale will be in New York Mills on Sept. 14.
