The Perham-Dent School District discussed another option for the use of the Family Resource Center building.
The space has been available for four to five years. The Perham Area Community Center and Productive Alternatives have shown interest in the space, as Superintendent Mitch Anderson said during the Wednesday, March 10 meeting. The Perham Area Community Center is considering it as an additional space for CrossFit.
Productive Alternatives would hope to relocate to the space from their building behind Dairy Queen. The non-profit supports adults with disabilities in finding jobs.
The Resource Center was previously used for the school’s Kids Adventure.
Other business discussed by the board:
Signs of hope posters created by elementary students will be placed in area businesses at the end of the month.
Minnesota Comprehensive state testing starts on March 22 and finishes in May at the middle school. At the high school, MCA and ACT testing is throughout March and April.
Prom is being planned for April 24.
The Area Learning Center program is adding a staff member at the New York Mills school for credit recovery.
The summer food service program will be offered through Sept. 30. Children 18 years old and under and individuals 19 and over with mental or physical disabilities can receive meals over the summer.
The school district is preparing for summer school. They hope to offer different opportunities for families and students, whether or not a course was failed.
The board approved math teacher Katie Byer’s request for a lesson plan survey of Algebra 2D students for her master’s thesis project. Parents will also receive consent forms for the data being collected.
The board also approved revisions to the food and community services budgets. The school switched meal programs and needed to move revenue in the food service area. Any excess fund balance will hopefully go towards new kitchen equipment at the elementary school. The community service budget changes are due to not having the community musical and decreased class sizes for the Kids Adventure program, according to business manager Kristi Werner.
- The next meeting is April 14 at 5 p.m. and is planned to be in the high school media center.
