Last month, Empowering Kids Perham received a $5,000 grant from the Medica Foundation. Part of this funding will be used to purchase social-emotional learning curriculums and sensory processing items such as a new light spray or bubble tube for its calm down room. The other part will be used to pay special education teachers who come in after school to teach our groups. Empowering Kids staff and board say they greatly appreciate the Medica Foundation for supporting children and families affected by autism and social challenges.

As one of the only non-profit autism organizations located between Moorhead and Minneapolis, Empowering Kids is unique in offering high quality and affordable programming (scholarships available) designed specifically for children with autism or social challenges (such as ADHD). Their mission it to empower children, families, and the community by providing support and resources to those with autism or social challenges.

Empowering Kids services are led by professionals in the field of special education with an emphasis in autism and have the professional experience to understand the specific skills that need to be taught to help individuals have the confidence to interact with others; a life skill that is critical to being employed and live independently. Empowering Kids programming includes preschool services, an afterschool program, summer programming, individual services, community outings, community education/training, and adult services (new starting March 2019).
