The funeral service for Erick W. Wenzel, 95, Vergas, MN was held on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 11 a.m. in St. Johns Lutheran Church, Vergas with Reverend Michael Wolters officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. He died on Sunday, April 2, 2006 in the Frazee Care Center, Frazee, MN.
Erick was born the son of William and Augusta (Gewe) Wenzel on March 1, 1911 in Germany. At the age of 14, he came to the United States with 11 cents in his pocket to live. He worked as a barber and then was employed as a supervisor for many years at American Crystal Sugar in Chaska, MN, Moorhead, MN and in Crookston, MN. Erick was united in marriage to Hildegarde Hillie Ell on August 28, 1938 in Ortonville, MN. He retired and they made their home on Long Lake near Vergas. She died in 2005.
He is survived by two grandchildren, Jennifer (Troy) Dudgeon of Elko, MN; Erick (Kristen) Fennern of Olivia, MN; five great granddaughters, Sierra, Lexi, Taylor, Morgan and Kaylee. He is also survived by a son-in-law, Walter Fennern of Wabasso, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hillie, a daughter, Connie Fennern, a grandson, Scott Fennern and his parents.
