The funeral service for Erma L. Hanson, 94, Detroit Lakes, MN formerly of Vergas will be held on Friday, June 1, 2007 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Loon Lake, Vergas with Reverend Robert Hinckley officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran-Loon Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in the church and one hour prior to the service. Erma died on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.
Erma Lois Enfield was born the daughter of John and Anna (Buss) Enfield on June 26, 1912 in Hardy, Iowa. She moved with her family living in Illinois and then in Dubuque, IA. She moved to Minnesota with her parents, near Clitheral, MN, where they farmed. She was united in marriage to Robert Hanson on August 2, 1937 in New Effington, SD. They made their first home in New York Mills, MN where they started their family. Later, they moved to Battle Lake, MN where they rented and operated their own farm. Around 1947 they moved to rural Vergas, purchased a dairy farm and together raised their four children. In 1977, Robert and Erma retired from dairy farming and they began traveling. Eventually, they decided to make southern Texas their winter home. They moved to Detroit Lakes. Robert died in December of 2004
Erma was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran-Loon Lake where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed snowmobiling in her earlier years and later gardening, fishing on Spirit Lake, cooking and traveling in their camper.
She is survived by a son, Robert (LaVon) Hanson of Detroit Lakes, two daughters, Roberta Osterberg of Estes Park, CO; and Sandy (Terry) Stromberg of Erhard, MN. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, a daughter JoAnn Gulland in 2006, five brothers, Elmer, Roy, Glen, Melvin, Donald, three sisters, Iva, Mae, Edna, and two sons-in-law, James Osterberg and Clarence Gulland.
