If you've ever had that wobbly feeling while seated at your favorite tavern, you would be a great candidate for the second annual Barstool Races at the East Otter Tail County Fair Friday, July 20.
Two-person teams participate in the slapstick event--one pushing a rolling barstool, with the seated "pilot" holding a beer. Race results are based on time--and the amount of beer remaining in the mug after the bumpy ride.
"We had twelve teams last year. The Perham Fire Department team beat the Jaycees for the Championship," said Rick Breitenfeldt, fair board member and promoter of the barstool escapades.
The fair board is encouraging teams to sign up for the event, and to challenge other businesses or organizations. Already, the Perham Lions have issued a challenge to the Lakes Lions.
The Perham firefighters are expected to be back to defend their title. Also participating last year were the EMTs, the fair board, a Zorbaz team and others. Racers must be 21 years old, because of the beer-handling aspect of the races.

The stools are custom-built units with large wheels--perfect for rolling on the rugged terraine at the tractor pull track.
New this year is an "open class," where contestants can design and build their own barstool--but no motors are allowed.
Trophies will be awarded to the winners. There is no entry fee, but pay at the gate to enter the fair, said Breitenfeldt. Spectators are encouraged to come watch the spectacle--and cheer on their favorite team.
Racers will register at 6 p.m. at the tractor pull track, with action underway at 6:30 p.m.
