After a two month trial period, the Perham Food Shelf has decided to add new afternoon hours one week per month.
The food shelf will now be open from 3-5 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, beginning Aug. 6. The morning hours, which run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday, will remain the same.
The trial involved adding a Tuesday afternoon segment over the last eight weeks to see if there were families in need who could not make it to the food shelf during the morning hours. During that trial period, the food shelf served 28 families, and 12 of those could not have visited in the morning due to work, transportation or other issues.
According to the food shelf’s Executive Director, John Leikness, “we believe by adding the afternoon segment once per month we can remove any obstacle that prevents people from getting that occasional helping hand for food.”
The food shelf will not be open between Christmas and New Year’s Day, or on days when Perham-Dent schools are closed due to inclement weather.
