A come-from-behind win over rival Frazee last week gave the Perham softball team a No. 2 seed and first round home field in the 8AA Sub-Section playoffs. The Jackets weren't able to turn that home-field advantage into playoff success, as Frazee took revenge in a rematch on Tuesday, eliminating Perham in five innings, 10-0.

The Hornets had 14 batters reach base without a hit (five walks, five Perham errors, two by fielders choice and two hit batters). They collected just three hits of Perham pitcher Mallory Malikowski.

Frazee scored two runs in the second thanks to a walk, two errors and a sacrifice fly. Two more scored in the third on a double by Chelsea Nordquist and the Hornets had a 4-0 lead.

A triple by Abbie Erb in the fifth was the only hit in a six run inning as Frazee scored three times on plays at the plate on bases loaded infield hits.

Alyssa Stafki, Sara Formanek and Janet Malcolm had the only hits for Perham (9-12) in the loss.

Frazee (11-5) will now move on to take on the Sub-Section's No. 1 team, Wadena-Deer Creek. The Wolverines beat Pine River-Backus 0-0 to advance. The Sub-Section championship will be played in Wadena today (May 24) at 5 p.m.

Both the sub-section champ and runner-up advance to the Section 8AA quarterfinals. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be in Frazee on May 29 (see brackets).

Spuds rally

The Jackets finished their regular season last Thursday with a 12-9 loss at Moorhead. Perham led 8-4 before the Spuds put together a 6-run fifth inning.

Abbi Paulseth's triple in the third inning gave Perham a 5-3 lead. A homer and a two-run single by Kayla Speicher in the fourth and fifth innings put the Jackets up four before the Moorhead comeback.

Speicher and Amanda Snyder each finished with three hits. Speicher, Stafki and Malikowski each scored two runs.
