George Lester Nau was born on July 6, 1920 in Des Moines, IA, to William and Mary (Burns) Nau. He passed away at the age of 88 on September 4, 2008, at Woodland Good Samaritan Home in Brainerd, MN.
George attended St. John's University in Collegeville. He served in the United States Navy from October 1942 through November 1945. He was united in marriage with Catherine Melaniphy on October 2, 1948, in Chicago, Il. She passed away in 1992. George and Kay were married for 44 years. He was later married to Audrey Imler for a short time. She also preceded George in death. George was a member of the Wadena community from 1955 until 1995 and worked as a financial planner for Ameriprise. He was a member of the Lions Club, and Ajax Coffee Club. George enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling.
He is survived by his five daughters, Mary Beth (Bill) Jones of Lakeshore MN, Cathy (Dave) Brock of O'Fallon, MO, Becky (Don) Legun of Semora, NC, Barb (Greg) McGannon of Colorado Springs, CO, and Monica (Dave) Pease of Spring, TX; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on September 8, at the Johnson Memorial Home Chapel in Wadena, with Father Donald Wagner as celebrant. Interment was at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. Pallbearers were Bill Jones, Dave Brock, Don Legun, Greg McGannon, Dave Pease, and Andrew Nau DeWitt.
