The Perham girls golf team enjoyed a bright sunshiny day at Lakeside Golf Course Monday for their season opener. The Perham girls, split evenly into two teams, Black and Gold, finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 17-team field.
Detroit Lakes, led by medalist Christine Herzogs round of 80 (40-40), won the team title with a four-person score of 348. Moorhead was second with 361, followed by Staples-Motley with 380 and Grand Rapids with 396.
The Black team finished with 415. Leading the way was Jeanna Kratzke with a 18-hole score of 102 (51-51). Katie Karkela was next for the Black team with a 104 (55-49), followed by Chelsea Sazama with a 105 (49-56).

Leading the way for the Gold team, which finished with 422 points, was Jenine Estlick, who had the teams low round with a 98 (47-51). Nikki Mattfeld shot a 105 (53-52), followed by Kacey Kachelmeyer with a 109 (57-52).
The nine holes of the Maple Course at Lakeside also served as the seasons first Heart O Lakes contest. Perham won with a 200. Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal was second with 216.
Medalist was Estlick, who shot a 47 on the Maple Course. Sazama was tied for third with a 49.
The girls will jump right into a busy schedule this week. They start by playing at Breckenridge today (April 20). This weekend they play at The Legacy Course near Brainerd in an 18-hole invite hosted by Staples-Motley.
They return to HOL play in Frazee on April 24, then turnaround on April 25 to play in the Pelican Rapids Invitational.
