The funeral service for Gordon "Jug" Eckre, 80, Frazee, MN will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee with Reverend William Aufdenkamp officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee. Burial will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Frazee. Gordon died on Sunday, January 27, 2008 in the Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Gordon Ole Eckre was born the son of Ole and Therese (Goodger) Eckre on September 1, 1927 in Abercrombie, ND. There he was raised and attended country school. At the age of 13, Gordon moved with his family, along with his dog, Peanuts, to Vergas, MN. He entered the United States Army and served during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Delores Erickson on October 30, 1948 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Loon Lake near Vergas. In 1950 they moved to rural Frazee. Gordon worked for the Ice House in Detroit Lakes, MN and for Laker Feed in Frazee. Gordon also worked for the Perham Creamery receiving an 18 year safe driving award. Gordon and Delores also dairy farmed and operated a vegetable and fruit farm. Gordon also worked for Jim Griffnow with the AI crew. He also received a 10 year 4-H leader award.

Gordon enjoyed woodworking, making birdhouses and wishing wells that he would donate for local benefits. He enjoyed gardening and making building blocks for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Delores of Frazee, three daughters, Diane (Wayne) Nichols of Moorhead, MN; Karen (John) Aho of Wolf Lake, MN; Janine (Doug) Trappe of International Falls, MN; two sons, Larry Eckre of Detroit Lakes and Gale Eckre of Detroit Lakes. He is also survived by a sister, Gelene Kratzke of Vergas, sisters-in-law, Corinne Monson of Frazee, Bonnie (David) Brown of Erhard, MN; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Erickson of Texas, Fred Kratzke of Vergas, 11 grandchildren, Bryn Nichols, Aron Nichols, Traci Nichols, Lisa (Chuck) Turcotte, Amanda (Tyler) Ullrich, Darin Eckre, Jennifer Lacey, Logan Aho, Josie (Steve) Sampson, Dana (Jackie Lucca) Eckre and Emily Tappe, 12 great grandchildren, Desiree Nichols, Anna Quick, Nicole Willey, Samantha Riggle, Rylee Turcotte, Mollie Turcotte, MaKayla Ullrich, Chandler Ullrich, Madison Porter, MacKenzie Eckre, Olivia Eckre and Howard Solem.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Tena Kratzke, Elsie Kratzke, Olga Johnson, brothers-in-law, Gary Erickson, Andreen Johnson, Butch Kratzke and Rudolph Kratzke.
