Branden files for Minnesota House of Representatives
Karen Branden filed for the State House of Representatives in District 2B that includes parts of six counties in northwest Minnesota. The rural Becker County resident marked the event in Detroit Lakes with her husband of 25 years, Dennis Jacobs.
Branden is a sociology professor at Minnesota State University-Moorhead and a language instructor at White Earth Tribal College. She received the Democratic Farmer Labor Party endorsement to challenge incumbent Republican, Steve Green.
Affordable healthcare and education issues are Branden's top priorities. She was motivated to run because of a void in leadership in the district and a desire to strengthen the impact of rural voices in St. Paul.
