The Otter Tail County Republican Party on Tuesday called for the resignations of Gov. Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan.
The party in a news release also says it is supporting efforts to end Walz's emergency powers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the statement, Otter Tail Republicans say about Walz and Flanagan that:
- "Their abuse of powers and excessive orders in response to COVID-19, which has severely and negatively impacted the family, religious, community, educational, and economic structures of Minnesota."
- "Their hypocrisy in selectively applying and enforcing emergency powers upon families, churches, communities, schools, businesses, and public spaces across the state, but not to the rioters, demonstrators, and protesters who align with their political beliefs."
- "Their mismanagement and abstention of duties and responsibilities during recent riots in the City of Minneapolis, which further impacted the stability of the state."
- "Their continued disregard for protecting historical public property and intentional lack of enforcement for those who seek to destroy it."
The Otter Tail County Republican Party says it is encouraging the state Legislature to end or limit Walz's emergency powers, limit funds to the city of Minneapolis for riot damage, and investigate Walz's decision-making during unrest after the death of George Floyd.
The local party has growing concerns about Gov. Walz's and Lt. Gov. Flanagan's ability to lead as they have shown selectiveness and favoritism in the enforcement of the COVID-19 emergency towards their own political party while endangering others, Ben Anderson, the Interim Vice-Chair and Secretary for the Otter Tail County Republican Party, said on the phone with the Focus.
