Rachel Grieger turned in her resignation as president of the New York Mills School Board on Monday, quietly ending the controversy that has surrounded her position for the last several weeks.
Grieger will remain on the board as a director. Jill Carlson will be the new president, with Amy Wallgren as vice president.
In a letter to the board, Grieger said there were “a myriad of reasons” behind her decision to resign.
Since early February, Grieger had been at the center of ongoing talks regarding the handling of superintendent Todd Cameron’s retirement. Grieger had given Cameron a letter in October, without full board knowledge, which ultimately led him to resign from his position a year earlier than he originally planned.
After initially denying the incident, Grieger later apologized for her actions. However, other board members continued to express concerns about a lack of trust and communication, and questioned whether Grieger should continue on as board president.

Her resignation as president was accepted Monday with no discussion from the board.
