Perham and Otter Tail County were well represented at the July 27 Miss Perham and Miss Heart of the Lakes pageants.

Crowned Miss Perham was Perham High School senior and ballerina Haley Skow, who also won the talent competition with her classical dance performance.

The 23rd annual Perham pageant also featured, for the fourth year, the regional Miss Heart of the Lakes coronation.

Former Miss Perham Kasandra Meehl was first runner up from the field of nine women--with Tara Greiman, Dayton, Minnesota, winning the crown. Second runner up was Brittany Pyle, Newfolden, who also won the talent competition with her piano performance.

Miss Congeniality honors went to an Otter Tail resident, Lacey Erickson, from Pelican Rapids.

Also competing for the Miss Heart of the Lakes crown was former Miss Perham Nicky Haverland, though she did not place.

Haley Skow will represent Perham at many community functions and appearances over the coming year. She will be promoting volunteerism as her platform during her reign. Skow was also the winner of the evening gown competition in the Miss Perham judging.

Former Miss Vergas Amy Kalina also competed for the Miss Perham crown, singing a selection from the Broadway musical "Wicked" for her talent segment. Class of 2007 Perham graduate Sammie Guck was the third contestant for Miss Perham.

Special guests for the program included Miss Minnesota Jennifer Hudspeth and Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen Chantal Wilson.

Farewell performances were presented by outgoing Miss Heart of the Lakes Kathryn Knutilla on piano and Miss Perham 2006-2007 Danielle Refsland, with her dramatic reading.

Guest performances included a vocal selection by Sophie Thiel and a ballet selection by Paige Meyer.

Serving as Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Jennifer Zick, who was former Miss Perham in 1995. Delivering the welcome message was pageant organizer Gina Cavanagh.
