Hearing on new firehall, center in Ottertail Jan. 10

All business, land, and residential property tax payers in the city of Ottertail were invited to attend a citywide hearing on the proposed Firehall/ Community Center Building addition.

All business, land, and residential property tax payers in the city of Ottertail were invited to attend a citywide hearing on the proposed Firehall/ Community Center Building addition.

Both the city's year-round residents and the area "snowbirds" were notified of the hearing via a mailing sent out by the city on December 12. The stated goals of the hearing are to obtain opinions on an addition, to examine the feasibility of such an addition, and to generate ideas on how the city could fund such a project.

The city council decided to hold the public hearing on Thursday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Ottertail Community Center. The January date was scheduled in hopes of maximizing the number of attendees, after the conclusion of the busy holiday season.

At the December 6 Ottertail City Council meeting, council members decided to move forward with the plan to schedule a public hearing on the expansion.

"I think we need to get the people there to get input on the design of the project," said Councilman Terry Wagenman.

Wagenman added how he anticipates the project taking 5 to 10 years.

"To me, it's something to continue talking about," he said to the council. "It really just needs to be kept alive and growing until we're ready to move on it."

The general consensus of the council was that public opinion would be a great help in deciding how to proceed from this point forward.
