Hintgen to cover county beat for EOT Focus, other area papers

Five Otter Tail County newspapers have launched a unique collaboration, joining efforts and resources to hire a regional news reporter.

Named to the position is Tom Hintgen, who recently retired from his position as a reporter with the Fergus Falls Daily Journal.

Hintgen will write news and feature stories on a part-time basis for the East Otter Tail Focus and the following other newspapers: Pelican Rapids Press; Battle Lake Review; Parkers Prairie Independent; and Henning Citizens Advocate.

Hintgen will attend and report on weekly meetings of the Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners, cover county court proceedings, report on news as provided by the county sheriff's department, and provide other news and feature stories. His coverage may include activities of the Otter Tail County Historical Society, Coalition of Lake Associations and outdoors-related features.

Hintgen's career included news reporting work at the Pelican Rapids Press, Fergus Falls newspapers, and writing and editing at the Fargo Forum. He also worked for several years in public relations for Otter Tail Power Company.

Hintgen and his wife, Sharon, have two adult sons and enjoy hiking in area parks, camping, fishing, gardening and kayaking. He is a native of Fergus Falls and Sharon is from Dent. She is a Perham High School graduate who teaches math at M State - Fergus Falls.
