Hodgson voted in as NY Mills Mayor

Larry Hodgson picked up nearly half the votes to win the New York Mills Mayor race over Chuck Fredley and write-in candidate Lynn Kasma.

With 441 votes cast for mayor Hodgson received 213 votes (48 percent) and Fredley received 128 (29 percent). Kasma, who launched her write-in campaign after the filing date, received 100 votes.

Hodgson, a retired teacher of 34 years in NY Mills, will take over for current mayor Randy Clarksean.

"I'm very pleased with the outcome and I'm pleased with the number of people who turned out to vote, no matter who they voted for," Hodgson said Tuesday night. "I've got some ideas of what I want to do. I'll have to find out what is happening and meet with the different departments."

At 7 a.m. on Tuesday there were 674 registered voters in the City of New York Mills. The city saw a 70 percent voter turnout with a total of 473 voters casting ballots Tuesday, and of those 440 voted for mayor.

In the uncontested City Council race for two seats incumbent Dianna Wallgren received 380 votes and William Warner received 328 votes. Both were elected to the City Council against five write-in votes.

Newton Township had a 67 percent voter turnout. Of the 499 registered voters 334 voted on Tuesday.
