Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls is recruiting volunteers to begin training in April. Contrary to what you might imagine, spending time and energy with those who are nearing the end of their lives and families who are facing the loss of a loved one, is a rich and rewarding experience. Helping someone live as qualitatively as possible until they die, is anything but depressing. After all, we are all going there someday!
For the past year, as a hospice volunteer, I have spent a couple of hours each week primarily visiting with patients, helping them eat if needed, taking them on walks, just sitting quietly by their beds, and giving their primary caregivers a much needed break.
Each patient and situation is different and what I have been asked to do varies, but is never beyond my skill level. The patients and families are so grateful for the help they receive and I feel deeply honored to be welcomed into their lives at such a vulnerable time. As a volunteer, you choose your own schedule and how far you are willing to travel. If you feel that you would like to explore this wonderful opportunity, please contact Andrea Popp at Lakeland Hospice in Fergus Falls at 1-888-820-7885. Training begins in mid-April.
Volunteers are greatly needed and appreciated.
