ITOW (In Their Own Words), the new Veterans Museum which opened this August in Perham, offers free admission and refreshments to all visitors on Saturday, November 11.

If you haven't visited this extraordinary museum, or even if you have, Veterans Day is a good time to do so again.

The museum features 6,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art gallery spaces. In Gallery One you can follow a self-guided tour and listen to veterans describe what it was like for them to leave home for the first time, prepare for war, experience battle and finally, return home. The exhibits are created from excerpts from more than 150 oral histories collected to date. One exhibit devoted to prisoners of war, offers a 20 minute video featuring the incredible story of Anton Cichy, a survivor of the Bataan Death March and the sinking of the Arisan Maru.

Another exhibit is based on the 1918 diary of Arthur Falk, a native of rural Corliss township, who went to France at the end of World War I. The exhibit which contains recordings of the diary and photographs from the era is presented in a recreated WWI bunker.

ITOW is located 8 blocks West of the stoplights in Perham and is open year round, Monday-Saturday, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 1-4 p.m. Regular admission is $4 for adults, and $2 for students. Veterans are admitted free.
