The Perham baseball team knows they probably didn't beat the best baseball team Moorhead High School has to offer. But they'll take what they can get.

The Yellowjackets took advantage of six Spud errors and sent a couple of balls flying into the stiff wind blowing out of Al Krueger Field Friday night to beat Moorhead in five innings, 11-1.

"They gave us a few of those runs," head coach Hans Hanson said. "But not every team capitalizes on mistakes and can rally around them. We did that tonight."

Andy Kratzke got the Jackets on the board with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second that got up into the jet stream flowing towards left field and left the park in a hurry. Perham added to their lead in the fourth when Marcus Hendrickson drove in Justin Berns. Isaac Stoll scored on a throwing error before Mac Stoll jacked the teams second homer, scoring Hendrickson. Mac added a RBI single in the fourth, giving Perham a 8-1 lead.

That was more than enough for Jacket starter Jonnie Schmitz. Schmitz worked out of a couple jams early in the game, and allowed a run in the third on a walk, stolen base, a balk and a RBI hit. From there he cruised, allowing just one hit with four walks for the win.

Perham ended the game in the fifth, scoring two runs, including the game winner on a bases loaded hit by pitch taken by Eric Weller.

"This is a good win for us," Hanson said. "Anytime you beat a quality team like Moorhead, that's a good win. We hit well. We pitched well and we made some plays in the field. We have to carry this type of game into next week with us."

Perham has a pair of crucial Mid-State doubleheaders this week. First, they take on second place Detroit Lakes (5-1, 2-0 Mid-State) at Krueger Field on May 4. The Jackets and Lakers split last year's meeting. D.L. is coming off a sweep over Pequot Lakes on May 1.

The Jackets will then take on the third place Pequot Lakes Patriots (4-1, 3-1 Mid-State) in a twinbill at Krueger Field on May 8. Perham has won nine of their last ten games against P.L.
