James H. Weston, 52, of rural Detroit Lakes, MN died in his home Monday, November 27 under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 1 at Northwoods Assembly in Perham, MN, Pastor Dirk Currier, officiating.
Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
James Howard Weston was born January 22, 1954 in Portland, OR to Donald and Eleanor (Buck) Weston. He attended schools in Detroit Lakes, MN and Redding, CA. During his adult life, he lived in Detroit Lakes, MN, Redding, CA and Fargo, ND where he worked as a handy man. He married Tina Morgan, February 14, 1974 in Redding, CA. He married Darlene Johnson. He met his longtime companion, Laurie Hensley in Frazee, MN in 1980 and has been like a father to her two daughters, Angie and Tina.
Jim enjoyed the simple things in life. He liked reading westerns and science fiction. He liked to tinker with things and kept busy working as a handy man helping others. He also enjoyed riding his bike and his friends at the New Life Center in Fargo.
Jim is survived by a daughter: Jennifer (Shea) Volker - Detroit Lakes; his companion: Laurie Hensley - Detroit Lakes; her daughters: Angie (Kenny) Leu - Detroit Lakes and Tina Spooner - Perham, MN; a step-daughter: Angela Johnson - Detroit Lakes; 6 grandchildren: Robin, April and Jennifer Nelson,; Melvin, Sherri and Bruce Spooner; 3 brothers: Donald (Barb) Weston - Detroit Lakes; Robert (Debbie) Weston - Perham; Terry Weston - Detroit Lakes; 4 sisters: Karen (Sonny) McAdams - Blanca, CO; Faye (Roy) Ailshire - Conway, MO; Sandra Pruitt - Hawley, MN; Janet Peterson - Valley City, ND; 3 aunts, 2 uncles and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, many aunts, uncles and a niece, Becky Weston. David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes is serving the family.
