Funeral services were held for Janice Jacobson age 69, of New York Mills, Minnesota on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota with Pastor Jon T. Haakana officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Cindy Becker. The pallbearers were Steve Bentley, Ross Koljonen, Steve Johnson, Roger Salo, Larry Mattsen and Robert Christensen. Janice was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, Minnesota.
Janice Ethel Jacobson was born on April 25, 1937 at home in Otto Township, rural Ottertail, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Henry and Fern (Kemp) Menze. She attended St. John's Parochial School in Ottertail, Minnesota until eighth grade, she then attended New York Mills High School in New York Mills, Minnesota. On May 28, 1955 Janice was united in marriage to LeRoy Jacobson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ottertail, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Susan and Greg. Janice and LeRoy made their home on the family farm in Deer Creek Township, rural New York Mills, Minnesota. Janice enjoyed baking and decorating wedding cakes. She was active in Trinity Lutheran Church and Finn Creek Museum. She also enjoyed gardening and flower gardening. On April 3, 2007 Janice entered into heaven at her home in New York Mills, Minnesota at 69 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Janice in death were her parents, Henry and Fern; a sister, Lois Koljonen; brothers and sister-in-law: Dean and Betty Menze, Orlend Menze; brothers-in-law: John Johnson and Robert Simmonds.
Janice is survived by her husband, LeRoy of New York Mills; daughter, Susan (Mark) Pierson of Sebeka; son and special friends: Greg Jacobson and Lidia Dilley and her children, Cody Clarksean and Izabelle Clarksean of New York Mills; grandchildren: Elizabeth Pierson, Melissa Pierson, Bradley Pierson, Jordan Jacobson and Hanna Jacobson; sisters: Verna Johnson of Ottertail and Shirley Simmonds of Duluth; brother, Larry (Kathy) Menze; sister-in-law, Deloris "DeDe" Menze of Ottertail; brother-in-law, Andrew Koljonen of Spokane, Washington; many other relatives and a host of friends.
