Jerome "Jerry" Frances Berns, age 68, of Perham, MN, died Wednesday, June 13, 2006, at the Perham Memorial Home, Perham, MN with his children at his side. Funeral services were held Friday, June 16, 2006, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will followed at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Perham. Visitation was held Thursday, June 15, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham.
Jerry Berns was born November 6, 1937, in Perham, MN, the son of Leo and Agatha (Siebels) Berns. He graduated from Perham High School and afterward, served in the military. On August 8, 1964, Jerry married Janice Johnson and resided in Perham where he worked for Land O' Lakes and Tuffy's. He retired at the age of 62. Janice died in 1989. He was also a volunteer on the Perham Fire Department. Jerry was well known for his saw sharpening business of 40 years.

During his retirement, Jerry truly loved his fishing, woodworking, bowling, and spending time with his grandchildren and many friends.

Jerry is survived by his children, Michael (Theresa) Berns, Ottertail, MN; DiAnne (Randy) Bade, Frazee, MN; Kevin (Julie) Berns, Moorhead, MN; Jeff (Mindy), Perham, MN; Debbie (Steve) Wilson, Oregon; and Connie Varner, Oregon; numerous grandchildren, two brothers, Charles Berns, Baxter, MN; and John (Joyce) Berns, Midland, VA; a twin brother, Joe (Barbara) Berns; four sisters, Catherine (Norbert) Doll, Perham, MN; Rita Rotta, Perham, MN; Mary Lou (William) Stoderl, Perham, MN; and Leonedia Fritz, Perham, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Janice; son, Jerome Jr.; brother, Jim; and parents.

Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN, is in charge of the arrangements.
