John Joseph Berns, 72 of Midland, VA died Aug. 22, 2006 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He was born Feb. 9, 1934 at Perham, Minn., to the late Leo and Agatha Siebles Berns.
Mr. Berns worked in the excavating business and was a self-employed farmer. He was known as "Mr. Fix It" for his neighborhood. He served four years in the US Navy during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Jim and Jerry Berns, and a grandson, Chris Leonard.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Joyce Elaine Heiston Berns; a son, Ricky Berns of Marshall, VA; a daughter, Lisa Sabedra of Spotsylvania, VA; two grandchildren, Joshua and Katie Sabedra; a great grandchild, Brooke Leonard.
Also surviving are two brothers, Joe and Charlie Berns of Minnesota; four sisters, Rita Rotta, Catherine Doll, Mary Lou Stoderl and Leonida Fritz, all of Minnesota

Funeral services were held August 26 at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton, with interment Bright View Cemetery.
