Joseph Edward Brauch passed away on Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Lakewood Health Care System in Staples. Joseph was born to his parents Edward & Laura (Schwalen) Brauch on Feb. 21, 1921 at the Davis Hospital in Wadena.
Joseph served his country in the US Army from 1942 to 1962, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. He retired from military service as a Chief Warrant Officer. Joe was united in marriage to Frances Therese Sullivan on Oct. 19, 1946 at the St. Mary of the Sea Catholic Church in Bayonne, NJ. After his military service we worked for Russ Davis Wholesale as a bookkeeper until his retirement. Except for time spent in the military he has lived in the Wadena area his entire life.
Joe was very active in his community. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW Post 3922, the Military Officers Association and he also served on the Wadena City Council. In his spare time he enjoyed being at the lake cabin, gardening, woodworking, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Frances of the Lakewood Health Care System in Staples; daughters Mary Beth (Al) Dolezal of Verndale and Gina (Ray) Bleimeyer of Rochester; sons James (Carolyn) of Lockport, IL, Joseph (Yong) of Fayetteville, NC & Robert (Jane) of Savage; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wed., Sept. 6th at 11:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with Fr. Donald Wagner as celebrant. Serving as honorary pallbearers were all of his grand and great-grandchildren. Serving as active pallbearers were his grandsons and grandsons in law; Anthony Dolezal, Chris Dolezal, Kevin Brauch, Rick Hable, Gregg Lentz & Tim Rist. Burial took place in the Calvary Cemetery in Wadena with military honors provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922 VFW of Wadena.
