The Minnesota Turkey Research and Promotion Council (MTRPC) has honored Greg Keil and Kevin Keil of "That Darn Bird," Perham, with its 2007 Promoter of the Year award.
The Keils have managed the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association's "Turkey To Go" restaurant at the Minnesota State Fair for five years. Since that time, the two have worked close with MTGA to remodel the restaurant space, which results in the expansion of the equipment and improved overall flow of product.
"As a result, MTGA's Turkey To Go restaurant increased sales from $185,000 to $217,817 in one year and cooked a total of 2,750 whole birds - an increase of 23 percent," said 2006-07 MTGA-MTRPC President Wayne Mickelson. "Repeat sales continue to increase as the "Great Big Turkey Sandwich" is a favorite among vendors looking for a filling, tasty, and healthy "fair" food."
"Quite simply, the Keils have done a fantastic job of promoting turkey to the huge audience at the State Fair," said Mickelson. "We're thrilled to be working in partnership with them."
Kevin Keil is mayor of Perham, and works for Barrel O' Fun.
