Kowabunga! Skate & Bike is hosting a fundraiser at the Pizza Ranch on Monday, September 15 from 5-7:30 p.m.
Promoters of a skatepark for Perham have gathered $20,000 in pledges to date, toward the estimated $60,000 cost of the park.
Plans for the park are not extravagant, said Trish McClellan, one of the parents spearheading the park project, who described it as a "start-up park."
The group is also seeking a grant of up to $25,000 from the "Tony Hawk Grant Program," said McClellan, who spoke at the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce Power Hour meeting Sept. 9. Hawk is internationally known as an expert skateboarder.
The proposed park will be located on Highway 51, just north of the Perham public works building. A BMX bicycle track is also proposed nearby.

The location resolved earlier issues and concerns, particularly for those in residential areas who voiced opposition to a park site that was in close proximity to homes.
The present location is close to public parks and facilities, and distant from residential neighborhoods.
Plans call for a 100 by 100 foot concrete pad, with a variety of equipment and ramps that skateboarders use. The park is expected to be built in spring or summer of 2009.
Pizza Ranch will be providing a buffet dinner Sept. 15.
This night will also be the kick-off for the Kowabunga design the t-shirt contest.
