There's nothing wrong with the New York Mills offense in the early part of the 2007 girls softball season. After a loss in the season opener, the Lady Eagles exploded for three-straight games of double figure run production. They won all three games and also won two-of-three games in the Menahga Tournament for a third place finish.

First win

The Lady Eagles exploded last Tuesday for a 21-1 pounding of Pillager for the team's first win of the season. Kristina Boe drove in five runs and Kristen Perala drove in four and scored four times to lead Mills. Tessa Wegscheid was 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and four runs scored. She also picked up the win on the mound by allowing just four hits.

NY Mills sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs in the second inning to break the game open.

Stomping Sebeka

Fresh off their win over Pillager, NY Mills hosted Sebeka on Thursday and picked-up right where they left off. They scored 18 runs on 16 hits and held off a late Sebeka rally for a 18-14 win.

The two teams traded punches in the first two innings. With the score tied 6-6 in the third, Mills took their first lead when Boe scored on a fielders choice. The fifth inning proved to be the difference in the game as the Eagles took advantage of four Sebeka errors to score 10 runs as they send 15 batters to the plate. Kim Becker, Morgan Kahilainen and Alyssa Lee each scored two runs in the inning.

Lee led the Eagle offense going 3-for-4 with three doubles and six RBI. Wegscheid picked up the win on the mound and went 4-for-5 with three RBI at the plate.

Menahga Tournament

It was a good weekend for the Eagles as they finished third at the Menahga Tournament. Mills played three very different games, but won two of them, including a dramatic win over the host team in the finale.

The Lady Eagles began the tournament with an 11-0 win over Pequot Lakes. Wegscheid allowed just one hit to the Patriots to pick up her third win of the season.

Consecutive RBI singles by Nicole Nebosis, Becker, Kahilainen and Lee sparked a six-run sixth inning to give Mills a 9-0 lead. They added two more in the seventh on a single by Wegscheid.

After three-straight double-digit run production, the Eagles hit a snag when they were shutout by Cherry in the second game of the tournament, 7-0.

Mills managed just four hits and only had one baserunner advance past second base the entire game.

Mills faced the host team and Park Region rival Menahga in the third place game. The Eagles withstood a late-inning rally by the Braves and won the game, 5-4, in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Menahga took the early lead, scoring twice in the top of the third inning. NY Mills responded with three runs in their half of the third as Boe, Brea Welter and Perala drove in runs to give them a 3-2 lead.

The Eagles would add a run in the sixth on a RBI double by Wegscheid.

Menahga didn't go down without a fight, as they touched Wegscheid for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Welter reached second on a one-out double and eventually scored the game-winner on a passed ball.

The Lady Eagles hit the road to take on Otter Tail Central today (April 26). They return home to face Wadena-Deer Creek on April 27 and host Menahga on May 1.
