Tough defense and strong inside play led the Lady Jackets to a pair of blow-out wins last week against HOL Conference foes.

Perham made-up a game against Ulen-Hitterdal on Dec. 20 at Prairie Wind Gymnasium for a postponement from Dec. 4. The Jackets totally dominated the first half to cruise to a 55-33 win. Ulen-Hitterdal scored just 13 points in the first half.

The Perham front line of Elisa Moenkedick, Tiffany Schroeer, and Sara Formanek combined for 36 of the Jackets points.

If Perham's defense was tough in the first half against U-H, then it was down-right nasty the next night in a 51-35 win at Barnesville.

After both teams began the game a bit sluggish, the Jackets took control with about 11 minutes left in the first half. They went on a 19-1 run to end the period, taking a 25-5 lead into the locker room. The Trojans went the final 10 minutes of the half without a point.

Even though Perham still went on to a 16-point win, it took a 10-0 run by Barnesville to end the game to get it that close.

Moenkedick led Perham with a double-double, scoring 15 and pulling down 11 rebounds. Tara Sailer was also in double figures, finishing with 10 points and six rebounds. Formanek pulled down seven boards to go with five points.

After Christmas break, the Perham girls will take part in the Pelican Rapids Holiday Tournament. They will face Battle Lake (6-0) in their first game on Dec. 27 at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Jackets also faced the Battlers in last year's Holiday Tournament with Perham coming out on top, 52-36.

The other game in the "Valkyrie" bracket will feature West Central Area against Sauk Centre at 7:15 p.m. The winners of the two games will face off on Dec. 28 at 7:15 p.m. The losers will play at 3:45 p.m. The "Valhalla" bracket will have Pelican Rapids taking on Norman County East and Underwood facing Clinton-Graceville.

Perham will return home to open the new year when they host Staples-Motley on Jan. 3.
